this is Sugar. she is our Basset Hound and is about 11 years old. last week she jumped down from a loveseat and herniated a disc; she became paralyzed. we took her to the vet and she had emergency back surgery. she is recovering from her surgery. she is home now but she still cannot walk so i spend my days doing physical therapy, massages, administering 4 different meds, and helping her outside to potty. i'm exhausted. it's not how i planned to spend my summer, but sometimes we have to sacrifice for those we love.
here is the story of how we got Sugar 6 years ago. Sugar is my first dog. before her i never considered myself a "dog person". now i can't imagine losing her. she greets me at the door with pure excitement even if i have only been gone for 15 minutes. she lays by my bed when i am sick. she lays at my feet when i'm working. she gives unconditional love.
i hope she recovers fully, but if not, i know i gave her the best care possible. i also know she gave me the most love possible.

Oh, sweet Sugar. Having taken care of Atlas - in even less tiring circumstances - I can imagine the exhaustion. Sending love to both of you.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your Sugar, and I hope she will recover completely. My dog is my treasure, so I understand how hard it must be.
